How the light works here

Costa Mujeres faces the Caribbean to the east, which means the sun rises over the water and sets behind the resort and the jungle. The practical effect is that the beach falls into open shade well before official sunset while the sky over the sea stays bright, so nobody squints through their vows and the water turns soft pink and lavender rather than blazing gold. The trade is that once the sun drops behind the buildings the light goes quickly, so ceremonies work best starting about ninety minutes before sunset, leaving room for family formals and couple portraits while there is still color in the sky. The Gravity rooftop terrace sits above the palm line and holds a clear western sky longer than anything at ground level, which makes it the place to be in the last minutes of light.

The best time to start your ceremony

Arch's own rule for this coast is to begin the ceremony about 90 minutes before sunset, which leaves the vows in soft light and still keeps time for portraits. Start times are rounded to the half hour for these coordinates. Costa Mujeres, Quintana Roo. UTC-5 all year: the state left daylight saving in 2015. Times are town level, so they run within a couple of minutes of the property.

Gravity Terrace RooftopElevated, above the palm line, open sky on every sideThe only space on the property that sits above the palm line, so it holds a clear western sky longer than anything at ground level. This is the place to be in the last minutes of light.
