02Why couples choose it

What couples choose it for

  1. 2.1

The resort opened in late June 2026, so the suites, restaurants, spa and event spaces are all new and have not yet been worn in by a full season of weddings.

  2. 2.2

Sordo Madaleno designed the property as a composition of glass and concrete, with stonework referencing the ancient Maya port of El Meco and a lobby chandelier that echoes the movement of the Caribbean and the region's cenotes.

  3. 2.3

Nine food and beverage outlets sit on site, including the all-day Costa Coral, Fish Market, Palmare Grill, the rooftop Shami, The St.

  4. 2.4

The Astor Ballroom Terrace holds up to 1,200 people for a standing reception and 508 for a seated banquet, which is a genuinely large outdoor capacity for a resort of this size.

03The spaces

Where you would actually get married

Reception

  • 3.1Astor Ballroom Terrace

The largest space at roughly 6,222 sq ft, open air and opening toward the sea.

  • 3.2Astor Ballroom

The indoor ballroom, roughly 4,858 sq ft with a 13.8 ft ceiling.

  • 3.3Caroline Astor

A 2,414 sq ft salon that divides into Caroline Astor I and II.

04The honest case against

When another venue fits better

Every point is drawn from the venue's own published terms and documented weddings. None of it makes this a bad venue.

  • You want to compare on paper before you make contact. The resort has not published wedding packages, a wedding price list, or named ceremony sites. Everything from the ceremony location to the bar package has to be quoted directly by the events team.
  • You want written confirmation the hotel runs weddings at all.Marriott's own event page answers no to the question of whether the resort provides wedding services, even though the same page and the opening announcement both describe the venues as built for weddings. Get the answer in writing from a person rather than from the page.
  • You planned to shortlist from home. There is no dedicated weddings page on the property's Marriott site, so a site visit here means asking your questions in person rather than reading a wedding brochure that does not yet exist.
  • You are sizing a large reception off published square footage. The figures do not agree. The capacity chart totals about 7,276 sq ft across two event rooms, while the opening announcements cite 9,687 sq ft and more than 12,000 sq ft.
  • You are budgeting against all inclusive quotes. This is an a la carte St. Regis rather than an all inclusive, so catering is curated per event and quoted against your headcount and menu rather than bundled into a single package price.
  • You have a large room block. The resort is small by corridor standards at 163 rooms including 50 suites, so a large room block takes up a meaningful share of the property and is worth discussing early.
05Before you book

The honest considerations

  • No wedding packages, price list or named ceremony sites are published; everything is quoted directly by the events team.
  • Marriott's event page says the resort does not provide wedding services, though the same page and opening announcement describe venues built for weddings.
  • There is no dedicated weddings page on the property's Marriott site; a site visit means asking questions in person rather than reading a brochure.

06Getting here

Arrival, and where you get ready

6.1Fly into
Cancun International (CUN).
6.2Then drive
About 30 minutes, roughly 17 miles north of the terminals.
6.3Arriving at
Costa Mujeres, the coast north of Cancun. The address is Carretera Puerto Juarez-Punta Sam, SM 001, MZ 002, Lote 07, Isla Mujeres Zona Continental, Quintana Roo 77520.
6.4Tell guests
The hotel opened in late June 2026, debuting on 25 June and formally ribbon-cut on 29 June, so ask the resort for its own map pin and send that alongside the street address rather than letting guests search the brand name.
6.5At the airport
Ignore anyone offering a ride between the arrivals door and the curb, however official they look. Only pre-arranged and federally authorized transport may pick up at the terminal, and the walk-up offers are where the overcharge stories come from. Ride-hailing apps work for the trip back to the airport but are unreliable for arrivals, so do not plan a pickup around one.
6.6Book the drive before you fly
Reserve a private transfer in advance: the driver meets you with a name sign, at a fixed price agreed up front, and tracks your flight if it runs late. We use Private Driver Cancun, WhatsApp +52 984 132 3989, mixofcultures.com. USA Transfers and eTransfers are two long-established operators for larger guest lists.

What to ask the wedding office

  1. 6.7

What is your outside vendor policy for a photographer we bring ourselves, what is the fee, and is a day pass required? Nothing is published.

  2. 6.8

Which spaces do you release for ceremony and reception, and what are the real capacities at our count? Your published square footages disagree.

  3. 6.9

What is the full quote at our headcount and menu, including service charge and tax, given there is no package price?

  4. 6.10

How many of your 163 rooms can you hold for our block, and is the 20 percent Special Opening Group Concession available on our date?

07Light and timing

How the light works at St. Regis Costa Mujeres Hotel & Residences

The Caribbean side of the peninsula faces east, which means the sun rises over the water and sets behind the resort and the tree line rather than out to sea. That is good news for an outdoor ceremony: the beach falls into open shade in the late afternoon while the sky stays bright, so nobody squints through the vows and skin tones stay soft. The trade is that you do not get the sun dropping into the water behind you, and instead the sky over the ocean turns a pastel gradient of pink, purple and blue. Light also disappears quickly on this coast once the sun is gone, so couple portraits need to be efficient rather than leisurely. Blue hour is worth staying out for, because the shallow turquoise water still glows and the white sand bounces light back onto faces. A ceremony starting about ninety minutes before sunset leaves room for vows, family groups and portraits without racing the dark.

The best time to start your ceremony

Arch's own rule for this coast is to begin the ceremony about 90 minutes before sunset, which leaves the vows in soft light and still keeps time for portraits afterwards. Start times are rounded down to the half hour. Costa Mujeres, Quintana Roo. UTC-5 all year: the state left daylight saving in 2015. Times are town level, so they run within a couple of minutes of the property.
