Only pre-arranged and federally authorized transport may pick up at the terminal, and the walk-up offers are where the overcharge stories come from. Ride-hailing apps work for the trip back to the airport but are unreliable for arrivals, so do not plan a pickup around one.

07Light and timing

How the light works at SLS Playa Mujeres

This coast faces east, so the sun rises over the water and sets behind the property rather than over the sea. In practice the beach sites, Central Beach and Jungle Beach among them, fall into open shade in the late afternoon while the sky over the water is still bright, which is flattering for vows and keeps nobody squinting into the sun. Sunset lands on the marina side of the resort, which is why the Golden Hour bar sits there and is built around that window. Starting a ceremony roughly ninety minutes before official sunset leaves room for family groupings and couple portraits before twilight, which arrives quickly on this coast. Blue hour is worth staying out for, since the shallow turquoise water and pale sand keep glowing after the sun has gone. Indoors, Twiggy is described by the resort as a warm, ambient lit room, so plan on working with that light rather than daylight.

The best time to start your ceremony

Arch's own rule for this coast is to begin the ceremony about 90 minutes before sunset, which leaves the vows in soft light and still keeps time for portraits afterwards.
