When another venue fits better
Every point is drawn from the venue's own published terms and documented weddings. None of it makes this a bad venue.
- You want one address for the whole day.The sanctuary is a church and nothing more. There is no reception space, no catering and no accommodation, so the party happens at a separate venue and transport between the two is yours to build.
- You assume the church ceremony is what marries you.It is not. The sanctuary's own document list asks for the civil marriage certificate or a civil registry application, so the civil step is handled separately.
- You are working to a short timeline.Couples living outside the diocese assemble the file at their own parish, request a carta de traslado six months ahead, and courier the originals to the Diocese of Cancun-Chetumal two months before the wedding.
- You want to keep the date flexible.Dates are held with a cash offering and are not refundable, and the sanctuary recommends booking at least six months out. Its requirements sheet gives the offering as 6,500, at least 50 percent paid immediately to hold the date.
- You expect the church to arrive dressed.The mass does not include floral arrangements or music, so flowers and any singers or musicians are yours to arrange and bring.
- You are picturing the confetti exit on the church steps.Rice, flower petals, bubbles and fireworks are all prohibited, and so are pets.
The honest considerations
- The sanctuary is a church only; no reception space, catering or accommodation, so plan the party elsewhere with transport between venues.
- The religious ceremony doesn't legally marry you in Mexico; the sanctuary requires a civil certificate or registry application separately.
- Outside-diocese couples file at their own parish, get a carta de traslado six months out, then courier it to the Diocese of Cancun-Chetumal two months ahead.
- The mass doesn't include flowers or music; arrange and bring your own florals, singers or musicians.
- Rice, petals, bubbles, fireworks and pets are all prohibited, ruling out a confetti exit on the church steps.

Arrival, and where you get ready

- Book a private transfer. Public buses mean transfers and a walk, and everyone will need onward transport to wherever the reception is.
- 6.5At the airport
- Ignore anyone offering a ride between the arrivals door and the curb, however official they look. Only pre-arranged and federally authorized transport may pick up at the terminal, and the walk-up offers are where the overcharge stories come from. Ride-hailing apps work for the trip back to the airport but are unreliable for arrivals, so do not plan a pickup around one.

How the light works here
The church and chapels are open-sided timber under palm thatch, so ceremony light is soft filtered daylight rather than the hard overhead sun of a beach ceremony. The roof shades faces while the open walls let light in from every side, and the surrounding jungle throws a lot of green into the shadows, which is worth correcting for rather than fighting. Floors are sand, which lifts a surprising amount of light back up under a veil. Time matters more than direction here, because this is a working parish with weekday masses at noon and 5:30pm and a Saturday mass at 10:30am, so a wedding slot sits around a live liturgical schedule. The grounds close at 8pm, so portraits on site are daylight work; anything at sunset or after dark happens back at the resort or reception venue.
The best time to start your ceremony
Arch's own rule for this coast is to begin the ceremony about 90 minutes before sunset, which leaves the vows in soft light and still keeps time for portraits afterwards. Start times are rounded down to the half hour. Cancun hotel zone, Quintana Roo. UTC-5 all year: the state left daylight saving in 2015. Times are town level, so they run within a couple of minutes of the property.
