- You were hoping a restaurant dinner could stand in for a reception.Semi-private restaurant dinners come with one set menu and allow no decor and no sound system, so speeches and a first dance need a private space.

How the light works at Planet Hollywood
The beach fronts the Caribbean on the seaward side of the peninsula with the lagoon behind the resort, so the sun rises over the water and sets inland behind the property rather than out to sea. That makes the late afternoon the useful window on the sand, and a ceremony set a couple of hours before sunset gets soft light without anyone squinting into it. Both rooftop terraces sit above the palms with open ocean views, and Rooftop 24 is covered, which helps in the harsher middle of the day. The Palm Pavilion pairs a shaded outdoor room with an air-conditioned indoor one, and the Blockbuster Ballroom is the indoor fallback if the weather closes in. After dark the resort leans into its Hollywood branding, with lit signage and stars worked into the pool and cabana decor, so evening coverage is lit rather than ambient.
The best time to start your ceremony
Arch's own rule for this coast is to begin the ceremony about 90 minutes before sunset, which leaves the vows in soft light and still keeps time for portraits afterwards. Start times are rounded down to the half hour. Costa Mujeres, Quintana Roo. UTC-5 all year: the state left daylight saving in 2015. Times are town level, so they run within a couple of minutes of the property.
