07Light and timing

How the light works at Mvngata Beach Hotel

The hotel faces east onto the Caribbean, so the sun rises straight out of the water in front of the beach and tracks inland behind the building through the afternoon. Late-day light on the sand therefore arrives from behind the camera rather than off the sea, and the water holds colour well after the sun has left the beach. The rooftop is the space the hotel points guests toward at sunset, and its infinity pool and panoramic views give an elevated sightline over the shoreline in both directions.
