When another venue fits better
Every point is drawn from the venue's own published terms and documented weddings. None of it makes this a bad venue.
- You have guests who want to stay somewhere cheaper.The resort requires 80 percent of wedding guests to stay on property and caps day passes at 20 percent of the guest count. It priced 2025 wedding passes at $156 per adult and $78 per child aged 4 to 12.
- You want the outdoor party to run past midnight.Outdoor venues observe a 10:30 PM curfew and pool venues are released only later in the evening, so a party that runs late has to move indoors.
- You are bringing your own DJ rig, trussing or a tent.Any outside vendor doing audiovisual work, bringing their own DJ equipment or installing trussing, tents or hanging fabric faces a $1,500 vendor supervision fee and a $500,000 insurance requirement, on top of the $1,500 per vendor per service outside vendor fee.
- You are flying your own photographer or hair and makeup in.The resort's FAQ states that photographers, videographers, hair, makeup and DJs brought from the couple's home country must stay on property for at least three nights on their own individual reservation.
- You want the marriage legally binding in Mexico.A civil ceremony requires arriving three business days ahead with certified birth certificates, passports, blood tests, any divorce decrees and four witnesses aged 18 or over. A symbolic ceremony requires two business days.
- You are shopping the Hard Rock name across properties.The Cancun and Vallarta resorts closed for renovation in summer 2026 and reopen in late December 2026, while Riviera Maya stays open throughout, so check which property a listing, a review or a quote is actually describing.

- Ignore anyone offering a ride between the arrivals door and the curb, however official they look. Only pre-arranged and federally authorized transport may pick up at the terminal, and the walk-up offers are where the overcharge stories come from. Ride-hailing apps work for the trip back to the airport but are unreliable for arrivals, so do not plan a pickup around one.

How the light works at Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya
On this stretch of the Caribbean coast the sun rises over the water and sets behind the jungle, so the beach and cove ceremony sites here face the sunrise rather than the sunset. In practice that is good news for an afternoon ceremony: as the sun drops behind the resort buildings the shoreline falls into soft open shade while the sky stays bright, so nobody is squinting and skin tones stay even. If you want the sun actually touching the water, that is a sunrise picture, which argues for an early portrait session rather than a late beach ceremony. Outdoor venues here close at 10:30 PM and pool venues only open from 7:00 PM, so the last stretch of the night is lit by whatever your decor and the venue provide.
The best time to start your ceremony
Arch's own rule for this coast is to begin the ceremony about 90 minutes before sunset, which leaves the vows in soft light and still keeps time for portraits afterwards. Start times are rounded down to the half hour. Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo. UTC-5 all year: the state left daylight saving in 2015. Times are town level, so they run within a couple of minutes of the property.
