This is the Caribbean side, so the shoreline faces east: the sun rises over the water and sets behind the resort and the mangroves rather than into the sea. That is good news for a beach ceremony, because by late afternoon the sand falls into open shade while the sky stays bright, so nobody is squinting through the vows and skin tones stay soft. The trade is that you do not get the sun dipping into the water behind you; instead you get a pastel gradient of pink and purple over the ocean. Plan the ceremony to start roughly 90 minutes before sunset so there is still light left for portraits, because once the sun drops behind the tree line here twilight comes on fast. The Sky Bar Terrace is the one spot that reads differently, sitting high enough to keep open sky and the Isla Mujeres horizon in frame after the beach has gone flat.
