When another venue fits better
Every point is drawn from the venue's own published terms and documented weddings. None of it makes this a bad venue.
- You are reading the package price as the wedding price.The published wedding package is a per person catering price, $312 to $366 per person plus taxes and service charges, with a 25 guest minimum. Venue rental, floral, decor, audio visual and photography sit outside it and are quoted separately.
- You are bringing your own planner and suppliers.The resort publishes no preferred planner list, no recommended vendor list and no outside vendor fee, so supplier access and any charges are things to get confirmed in writing before you sign.
- You want an outdoor party that runs late.Events in the convention centre that run past 11pm carry a $500 overtime fee, and the included wooden dance floor covers indoor events there only, so an outdoor party needs a floor quoted in.
- Your date is set and the whole property has to be normal that week.El Camaleon, the golf course running through the community, publishes closure and limited access dates for tournaments, including late April into early May 2026 for the LPGA event, which affects the whole property.
- You are looking at late summer or autumn dates.August through October is the peak of the rainy and hurricane season on this coast, and sargassum can affect the beach from late spring onward, so the covered plan B needs to be one you would actually be happy to use.
- You expect guests and deliveries to simply turn up.Mayakoba is a private gated community with controlled entry, so guest arrivals, deliveries and supplier access all need registering in advance with the resort rather than sorted at the gate.

Arrival, and where you get ready

- Ignore anyone offering a ride between the arrivals door and the curb, however official they look. Only pre-arranged and federally authorized transport may pick up at the terminal, and the walk-up offers are where the overcharge stories come from. Ride-hailing apps work for the trip back to the airport but are unreliable for arrivals, so do not plan a pickup around one.

How the light works at Fairmont Mayakoba
On this coast the sun rises over the Caribbean and sets over the jungle, so an east facing beach ceremony at Fairmont Mayakoba falls into soft open shade well before the official sunset time while the sky over the water stays bright. That gives you even, flattering light for the vows and the pastel gradient of pink and blue behind you rather than a hard sun flare. Isla Lawn sits inland at the centre of the resort with lagoon water on all sides, so it holds warm reflected light a little longer than the sand, while the Riviera Grand and Mimosa ballrooms are fully controlled interiors that depend on whatever lighting design you bring. Once the sun drops behind the tree line the twilight window closes fast, so couple portraits are best scheduled tight to the end of the ceremony rather than after dinner.
The best time to start your ceremony
Arch's own rule for this coast is to begin the ceremony about 90 minutes before sunset, which leaves the vows in soft light and still keeps time for portraits afterwards. Start times are rounded down to the half hour. Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo. UTC-5 all year: the state left daylight saving in 2015. Times are town level, so they run within a couple of minutes of the property.
