How the light works at Cenote Taak Bi Ha
Plan this one as a cave rather than as a sunset. There is no golden hour to face and no ceremony orientation to choose: the chamber is lit from the opening above, and cenote guides rate Taak Bi Ha one of the best lit cave cenotes in the peninsula, good to photograph at any hour of the day. That daylight matters most during setup and portraits, because the private rental window runs from 5pm in two hour blocks, which pushes many ceremonies toward the end of the light. Once the daylight goes, the cavern is as dark as the couple's own lighting makes it, and published images from weddings here show candles set along the stone path and lanterns lining the steps. The scene is high contrast by nature: wet limestone, dark rock and a pale dress, above water that reflects everything.
The best time to start your ceremony
Arch's own rule for this coast is to begin the ceremony about 90 minutes before sunset, which leaves the vows in soft light and still keeps time for portraits afterwards. Start times are rounded down to the half hour. Tulum, Quintana Roo. UTC-5 all year: the state left daylight saving in 2015. Times are town level, so they run within a couple of minutes of the property.
