What couples choose it for
- 2.1
The property is an art collection you can get married inside, with works from Lio Malca's collection running through the public spaces and a dedicated Art Gallery room finished in grey concrete.
- 2.2
Each space carries a published location fee, so a couple can price a ceremony and a dinner from the venue's own wedding presentation before ever sending an enquiry.
- 2.3
The hotel sits on its own stretch of Tulum hotel zone sand, and both beach spaces put the ceremony directly on it with the Caribbean behind.
- 2.4
Weddings are handled by a named in-house coordinator, Noelia Navarrete, rather than a rotating events desk.
- 2.5
Published accounts of weddings held here describe the grounds as a former Pablo Escobar estate, later bought and reimagined by art collector Lio Malca.
- 2.6
The Main Entrance ceremony set pairs vintage Mexican wedding dress lace hung as curtains with Victorian chairs suspended on chains, framed by a tree trunk doorway that opens straight to the sea.

When another venue fits better
Every point is drawn from the venue's own published terms and documented weddings. None of it makes this a bad venue.
- You want a long night of dancing.Events at Casa Malca must end no later than 23:00, which compresses the dancing window and sets the shape of the whole timeline.
- You want to bring a caterer, or your own wine. All food and beverage must come from Casa Malca. External catering and uncorking are not permitted, and an 18 percent service charge applies.
- You expected the venue to come lit.Sound, lighting, decor and entertainment all have to be rented in. The venue states that its locations do not have adequate lighting for an evening event, so light is a budget line rather than an assumption.
- You want a plan B that is already in the price. There is no rain backup for private events over 20 guests, so a tent has to be costed in for any outdoor space.
- You have your heart set on the beach or the main entrance.Casa Malca Beach and the Main Entrance are released only for full property buyouts, and the Main Entrance is available for ceremonies only. Published location fees across the individual spaces run $2,500 to $10,000 USD, and two of the spaces are quoted on request rather than published.
- You have guests who need step-free access. The property's Cvent listing carries a No Handicap facility restriction, so accessibility should be raised directly with the hotel before booking.
The honest considerations
- Events must end no later than 23:00, which compresses the dancing window and should shape the timeline from the start.
- All food and beverage must come from Casa Malca; external catering and uncorking aren't permitted, and an 18% service charge applies.
- Sound, lighting, decor and entertainment all have to be rented in; the venue states its locations lack adequate lighting after 6:00pm.
- There's no rain backup for private events over 20 guests, so a tent should be costed in for any outdoor space.
- Casa Malca Beach and the Main Entrance are released only for full property buyouts, and the Main Entrance is ceremony-only.
- The property's Cvent listing carries a No Handicap facility restriction, so raise accessibility directly with the hotel before booking.
Arrival, and where you get ready
- 6.1Fly into
- Cancun International (CUN), or Tulum's own airport, which is about 35 km away.
- 6.2Then drive
- Roughly 90 minutes by road from Cancun airport. Chartered coaches suit groups of 45 or more.
- 6.3Arriving at
- Km 9.5 on the Tulum hotel zone strip.
- 6.4Tell guests
- Send the Km 9.5 address together with the hotel's own map pin rather than the hotel name alone.
- 6.5At the airport
- Ignore anyone offering a ride between the arrivals door and the curb, however official they look. Only pre-arranged and federally authorized transport may pick up at the terminal, and the walk-up offers are where the overcharge stories come from. Ride-hailing apps work for the trip back to the airport but are unreliable for arrivals, so do not plan a pickup around one.
- 6.6Book the drive before you fly
- Reserve a private transfer in advance: the driver meets you with a name sign, at a fixed price agreed up front, and tracks your flight if it runs late. We use Private Driver Cancun, WhatsApp +52 984 132 3989, mixofcultures.com. USA Transfers and eTransfers are two long-established operators for larger guest lists.
Where you get ready
Details below are venue-published.
- Master Suite BeachfrontBeachfront room category at Casa Malca; the venue's coordinator says it is the suite "we always suggest to the couple to stay" and highlights it for bridal getting-ready. 1080 square feet (100 m2). Two restrooms, so the bridal party can split up for hair and styling; described as big with "plenty of space"; paintings around the suite used for a first look.
What to ask the wedding office
- 6.7
The outside photographer fee and any day pass charge for our date, in writing, and whether it's waived if our photographer books a room.
- 6.8
The location fee for our exact space and day of the week, since it varies by both, plus any minimum consumption attached.
- 6.9
What the spaces quoted on request would cost us on our date.
- 6.10
What a tent for our guest count would cost and where it can stand, given there's no rain backup over 20 guests.
- 6.11
Whether a full property buyout is available on our date, since the beach and main entrance come only with one.
How the light works at Casa Malca
Tulum sits on Mexico's Caribbean coast, so the sun rises over the water and sets behind the jungle rather than into the sea. In practice that means the two beach spaces, Philosophy Beach and Casa Malca Beach, fall into soft open shade in the late afternoon while the sky over the water stays bright and turns pastel, so nobody is squinting through their vows. It also means the light drops away quickly once the sun clears the treeline, which is why a ceremony roughly 90 minutes before published sunset leaves room for portraits afterwards. The Rooftop is the space the hotel itself positions for sunset, with a 360 degree outlook over jungle and sea and a clear view of the sky in every direction.
The best time to start your ceremony
Arch's own rule for this coast is to begin the ceremony about 90 minutes before sunset, which leaves the vows in soft light and still keeps time for portraits afterwards. Start times are rounded down to the half hour. Tulum, Quintana Roo. UTC-5 all year: the state left daylight saving in 2015. Times are town level, so they run within a couple of minutes of the property.
